🌩️ Be Prepared for storm season! 🌩️
Storm season is here, and Byron Shire residents are urged to be prepared, understand emergency warnings, and know where to look for resources and info.
In NSW, Storm Season falls between September and April, although major storms can happen at any time of the year. Storms can become extremely dangerous, causing destructive winds, heavy rainfall, damaging hail, and flash flooding.
When preparing an emergency plan residents should consider situations like:
- what if you can’t get home? 🏡
- what if your children are at school or childcare? 🚸
- do you have somewhere to evacuate to? ⛪
- what happens if you lose power for any length of time? 🔦
- are the pets safe? 🐶🐈
Australian Warning System
The Australian Warning System (AWS) is a new national approach to information and warnings during emergencies like bushfire, flood, storm, extreme heat and severe weather.
The System uses a nationally consistent set of icons, like those below.
